Healthy lifestyle : Eden swimming is for the birds!

EDEN SWIMMING IS FOR THE BIRDS

One of the things I so enjoy about teaching at Eden is the whole school atmosphere. Never is
it more apparent than at the Midmar mile swimming training time. Kids from 11 and upwards
to 18, of all shapes and sizes, of all abilities take to the pool accompanied by some die hard
teachers and one or two brave parents. Big kids encourage small kids, small kids encourage
staff, the permutations are endless and all under the tutelage and watchful eye of the amazing
Gill Rayner (Grade 2 teacher).
I have been swimming during the holidays in the Gym, but now school is open once again I am  braving those early mornings and late afternoons to get into the school pool. Swimming this
past Sunday afternoon two Egyptian geese flew in to the pool and were most surprised to see
me and my partner churning up the water, for a while they joined in watching us curiously until
eventually they got bored and flew off. They were replaced by three Cape wagtails who wagged
their way around the edge of the pool keeping a wary eye on our laps.
When I tired and turned onto my back for a few lazy backstroke laps looking up was a delight,
a kite was hovering over the pool and several pairs of lesser swallows were diving for insects
just above our heads. The cackle of the wood hoopoes and the cock of the Lorie from the trees
along the edge completed the feeling that the school truly is a garden of “Eden".

Resources : Milk Bottles

DO you have any of these? Please send in to school!

We have committed ourselves to a company who recycles milk bottles. They manufacture recycled furniture from these plastic milk bottles. Each grade is now in competition to see who will have collected the most milk bottles to earn a bench for the school at a reduced cost.

Come on Eden we need benches for our field

Global and Local Issues : MOOP Audit ( Matter out of place )

The Grade 7's ( with Mrs van Elden's help ) decided to do a litter audit around the school during the first week of the term. They were shocked with what they saw. During assembly it was brought to the school's attention and on Thursday they took their ipads and cellphones and photographed what they saw. Although there were still areas of concern, they were thrilled at the clean up that had happened.

Well Done EDENITES! Keep it up and lets work together to rectify the poor areas.

What a clean place this has become in a week!

Community and Heritage : Come and give Blood

Community and Heritage : Tu Bishvat

Jewish Studies Department

Tu Bishvat the Israeli tree planting day was celebrated by the Jewish pupils on Friday the 17th of January, during their weekly Shabbat lesson.
As we are so proud of our Eco friendly school, which has been awarded gold flag status, we ensured that the trees planted were all indigenous. The pupils really were excited to plant their own special trees and even the extreme heat did nothing to dampen their enthusiastic spirits.
They have undertaken to nurture these trees and in so doing will learn the importance of preserving our beautiful environment.

They celebration was rounded off with delicious refreshing ice-cream and fruit salad.

Community and Heritage : Kathak dance graduation

Our very own and beautiful Bhavta Harrielall had her Kathak dance graduation at The isiZulu Theatre at Sibaya on Saturday 11th December, where her outstanding and scintillating performance had the audience mesmerized and enraptured for the 2 hours that she performed on stage. Well Done Bhavta. Your performance had me in tears at your beauty, grace, humility and outstanding talent.
