The grade 8 kids began learning how to code/ program this term and have been working for weeks now completing a narrative using Scratch (https://scratch.mit.edu/) a visual programming used to introduce coding to a young audience globally. The idea from the creators (a group of MIT post-graduate students) was to make coding fun. And fun we had this term with some really awesome projects made from a hard-working group of young people. The theme for the term was Environmental Awareness and Eco-Friendliness Promotion. The learners were encouraged to develop narratives that would speak to the many, solvable, issues currently plaguing our planet. They worked tirelessly on producing 'programmed products' that they then uploaded to their own Scratch online workspaces.
