Community and heritage: Khetani Dog and Cat bed project.

We are looking forward to seeing the results of the Grade 8 and 9 project that Mrs Gaylard has given to her Arts and Culture students:-

Grade 9J and 8M Arts and Culture: Project Roll Out Term 3 2015

This term you will be doing a project for Arts and Culture that
involves creating a Dog or Cat Basket for the Khetani Cats and Dogs.
This project is an Animal Rights Campaign, which seeks to improve the living
conditions of Dogs and Cats in Township/rural areas. In this case it is near the
Drakensberg in Winterton.
Obviously many other measures are being taken, including a sterilization scheme,
Vaccination scheme, feeding scheme by the local Vets and authorities, but it does get very cold there!

To this end learners must please collect the following:
1)    Old Pillows: Continental pillows, Scatter cushions, standard bed pillows, Couch cushions and the actual couch matrasses if the couch is old and being thrown out.
2)    Old Duvet inners: If you need to replace the actual inner of the duvet, please send the old duvets along.
3)    Old Blankets
4)    Old curtains: Nice thick fabric makes great dog beds.
5)    Old Baskets: See pictures

In the mean time please start gathering recycled materials that they can use to make their Dog/Cat Bed.

It is important that they start gathering whatever they will be making their Dog/Cat Beds from NOW as they will need lots of stuff to work with for this project to be successful. They might need to learn how to use the family sewing machine so send them for some lessons during the vacation. Most brands offer lessons with the purchase of a sewing machine. Any other ideas are most welcome.
