Edens Green Fest

We recently held our annual Eco Fresh Fest at school. It was a resounding success. Each year it seems to get bigger and better. Mrs. Jean van Elden and Mrs. Charmaine Morrison must be given a special mention for all their hard work in making it such an successful event.

Here is a report back from Mrs van Elden.

Eden Green Fest a Resounding Success!

A huge thanks you to all parents, students, staff, stallholders, performers, judges, designers, visiting schools and friends who made our Green Fest the success it was. Our weather was perfect. The stalls at the flea-market were of a high standard and the event was incredibly well supported. Our congratulations to stallholders who all respected and embraced our Eco ethos. The day had some wonderful highlights….

Eco Master Chef
This event has grown into a wonderful event. Kassia Vosloo entertained and educated our mini chefs whilst Damien Veneruso and Mervyn MacMurtry ran a challenging Senior Primary and Senior Event. This event was organized by Mrs Booysens and Mr Robertson. Thanks to Adrian Padt for the load of his Eco friendly pellet Stoves. We also had visiting chefs from Holy Family Convent. An Amazing time was had by all.

The Green Fashion Event
This incredible event used 150 models who ably modelled local and recycled outfits. Many staff worked tirelessly on this colourful event .A special thanks to Mrs Gaylard who co-ordinated the whole show. The fashion show raised R6000 for art materials and R331 for Acting for Rhinos.

The Eco Quiz
Penzance Brighton Beach, Eden and Girls College participated in this innovative and informative quiz put together by Mrs Regard. Girls College won the quiz and everyone went home with a lot of Eco Knowledge.

Eco –Reka
Our Prep hall was filled with an array of informative science projects that presented research on Eco friendly solutions for the planet. This competition was done by Grade 8 and 9. Many Thanks to Mrs Barnard and her team for their enthusiasm.

The Grade 11 Business Studies Project
Grade 11 students did a Banting Research Project and were selling their delicious healthy wares to the public. The Group called The Munchies were kind enough to donate their profits to Interact and Acting for Rhinos.

The Art Exhibition
Thanks to all the schools who participated and to Dee Maree for curating this colourful exhibition.

The Rhino Stage and Area
Mrs Morrison (Jnr) put together a stunning program of events on the stage. The day started with a bang with Qadasi and Maqinga. Jess Weakley entertained the crowds next. The bands to follow were The Kickstands and The Common Creatives. In between there were poetry acts and Rhino Shout Outs by Holy family students, Grade 6,7 and 10. H20 livened up the stage with his hip hop moves. The Rhino area had many activities and raised over R3000 on the day for Acting for Rhinos. We are so grateful to all our entertainers, bands and visiting schools who volunteered to entertain on the day.

One of the activities was the sponsorship of Mrs van Elden’s walk from Portugal to Spain in September. She and her husband will be hiking approximately 150 km and are asking folk to sponsor them per kilometre. (E.g. 1 c per km would cost you R1, 50 and R1 per km would cost R150). If you haven’t yet sponsored them, please consider it. You will be contacted via WhatsApp once they have completed the route and given the Acting for Rhino banking details. Direct deposits can be made or cash can be given to Mrs van Elden. ALL FUNDS GO TO ACTING FOR RHINOS/PROJECT RHINO KZN.
