Community and heritage: Khetani Dog and Cat bed project.
We are looking forward to seeing the results of the Grade 8 and 9 project that Mrs Gaylard has given to her Arts and Culture students:-
Grade 9J and 8M Arts and Culture: Project
Roll Out Term 3 2015
involves creating a Dog or Cat Basket for the
Khetani Cats and Dogs.
This project is an Animal Rights Campaign,
which seeks to improve the living
conditions of Dogs and Cats in Township/rural
areas. In this case it is near the
Drakensberg in Winterton.
Obviously many other measures are being taken,
including a sterilization scheme,
Vaccination scheme, feeding scheme by the local
Vets and authorities, but it does get very cold there!
To this end learners must please collect the
following:
1)
Old
Pillows: Continental pillows, Scatter cushions, standard bed pillows, Couch cushions
and the actual couch matrasses if the couch is old and being thrown out.
2)
Old
Duvet inners: If you need to replace the actual inner of the duvet, please send
the old duvets along.
3)
Old
Blankets
4)
Old
curtains: Nice thick fabric makes great dog beds.
5)
Old Baskets:
See pictures
In the mean time please start gathering
recycled materials that they can use to make their Dog/Cat Bed.
It is important that they start gathering
whatever they will be making their Dog/Cat Beds from NOW as they will need lots
of stuff to work with for this project to be successful. They might need to
learn how to use the family sewing machine so send them for some lessons during
the vacation. Most brands offer lessons with the purchase of a sewing machine.
Any other ideas are most welcome.

Eden Green Fest a Resounding Success!
A huge thanks you to all parents, students,
staff, stallholders, performers, judges, designers, visiting schools and
friends who made our Green Fest the success it was. Our weather was perfect.
The stalls at the flea-market were of a high standard and the event was
incredibly well supported. Our congratulations to stallholders who all
respected and embraced our Eco ethos. The day had some wonderful highlights….

Adrian Padt for the load of his Eco friendly pellet Stoves. We also had
visiting chefs from Holy Family Convent. An Amazing time was had by all.
The Green Fashion Event

Acting for Rhinos.
The Art Exhibition
Thanks
to all the schools who participated and to Dee Maree for curating this
colourful exhibition.
The Rhino Stage and Area
Mrs Morrison (Jnr) put together a stunning
program of events on the stage. The day started with a bang with Qadasi and
Maqinga. Jess Weakley entertained the crowds next. The bands to follow were The
Kickstands and The Common Creatives. In between there were poetry acts and
Rhino Shout Outs by Holy family students, Grade 6,7 and 10. H20 livened up the
stage with his hip hop moves. The Rhino area had many activities and raised
over R3000 on the day for Acting for Rhinos. We are so grateful to all our
entertainers, bands and visiting schools who volunteered to entertain on the
day.

One of the activities was the sponsorship
of Mrs van Elden’s walk from Portugal to Spain in September. She and her
husband will be hiking approximately 150 km and are asking folk to sponsor them
per kilometre. (E.g. 1 c per km would cost you R1, 50 and R1 per km would cost
R150). If you haven’t yet sponsored them, please consider it. You will be contacted via WhatsApp once they have completed the
route and given the Acting for Rhino banking details. Direct deposits can be
made or cash can be given to Mrs van Elden. ALL FUNDS GO TO ACTING FOR
RHINOS/PROJECT RHINO KZN.
If you are keen WhatsApp Mrs van Elden on 0825607185 and say how
much you want to commit to. She will send you a link of their blog so you can

Nature and Bio-diversity:- High school Eco Club.
The first outing arranged by the Eco Club was a litter clean-up at Mitchell Park on Friday 13 March. Although initially there did not seem to be much litter, the students found evidence of a party and lots of small items eg straws were picked up. The amazing thing was that this was in close proximity to several Teletubby-adorned bins! Lazy or stupid?!
The Eco Club would like to encourage all college students to dispense their litter in the bins provided and place recycling items in the appropriate bins at school. We look forward to more students joining us on future endeavours.
Nature and Biodiversity:- Grade fives in the garden
The Grade 5 children had loads of fun planting different types of veg and some fruit trees. They learnt why it is important to loosen the roots before you plant and they helped dig the tunnel to collect rain water.
They are looking forward to watering and looking after their plants and watching them grow.
Nature and Biodiversity: -Gardening
The grade seven and grade two children have had their turns in the school permaculture garden this term. Jo showed them the best plants to plant for this time of the year.
