Healthy Eating: New Tuck shop

Eden has a new tuck shop owner and it is GREAT! They are providing healthy  affordable meals ........ and what is more they have ECO FRIENDLY sandwich containers! ( I can recommend the egg mayo sandwiches - they are delicious!

Community and Heritage : Collecting Bread Tags for Wheelchairs

Edenites have been collecting Bread Tags over the past year. Mrs  van Wyk  has done a fantastic job co-ordinating it all. Thank you (Mrs van Wyk runs a group at Eden called 'Care Com') Here is a copy of the letter from Karen Muller thanking us.

 

 

Just thanking your school for collecting the 97kg of Bread tags for Wheelchairs. I will let you know soon as to whom got the wheelchair ok. Well done!!!!

Nature and Biodiversity : Grade 2 orals ( Continued)

Senthen did an amazing oral. Once again the topic was "The day in the life of ...." and he spoke as the variuous members of a food chain. It was brilliant. Theses were just some of the slides he showed!

 

 

Resources :Grade 4’s visit the Fairfield Dairy Farm!

 

On the Tuesday (12 November) the Grade 4’s went on an exciting outing to the Fairfield Dairy Farm.  What an experience!  Not only did the children learn many interesting and new things, but the teachers did as well.  The children were shown how cows are milked, where the milk goes and what they do with it.  After they had seen how yoghurt was made they were taken into the big walk in fridge where all the products are stored – the best part! 

 

Resources: Working in the Vegetable garden

On Tuesday I took  my regular Grade 2 eco gardeners down to the vegetable garden. We weeded, and planted some beans that Mrs van Elden had that were organic. We discussed what organic meant.  They realised that vegetables were never meant to be kept but rather eaten straight away. Because Mrs van Elden had not eaten them soon enough they had began to sprout! Hopefully they are now sprouting in our vegetable patch!

 

 

Last week we discussed cuttings and planted a rose geranium cutting which they were delighted to see was growing healthly!

Nature and Biodiversity : Gr 1 : planting beans

The Grade 1's have a theme based on fairy tales this term. One of the books they read was :

Mrs Maurice and Mrs McToal decided that it would be a good idea to plant a bean and watch how it grew. First a chart was shown and the different stages of the growth of a plant was discussed.

There was great excitement as they went about planting their beans....

A few weeks later ..... a beanstalk emerged!

Each child went home to plant their seedling. Hopefully they had a magic bean too! We will just have to wait and see!

Nature and Biodiversity: Grade 2 Amazon Jungle

The Grade 2's have spent the last two weeks exploring the Rain forests of the Amazon Jungle.The topic for their orals were: The day in the life of .......

Community and Heritage : Diwali Celebrations

We wish all our Hindu families a very special Diwali.May the day and year be filled with light. 

We celebrated Diwali on Friday with a wonderful festival organised by "Aunty Rosh"! Afterwards we we treated to a delicious meal served by the parents. A big THANK YOU to all concerned.

Community and Heritage: Judaica Prize giving (Norma Bloch)

On the 17^th of October we hosted our Judaica Prize giving. This year we decided to give a totally new spin on the format of the event and opted for an Israeli Breakfast. What a resounding success this proved to be. 

The function began with the morning Shacharit service led very competently by Doron Werner. Parents and invited guests then proceeded to the Centre where they were seated at beautifully decorated tables.

The pupils and I then presented the annual report using a power point system, which included many photos and explanations regarding the festivals and functions the department has enjoyed during the course of the year.

There were many generous and supportive organizations to thank for their unwavering backing and assistance to our programme. It must be noted that without their continued contributions the department would cease to exist.

As each individual or head of an organization was thanked they were called up to place their picture on our gratitude board which was displayed in the shape of a Magen David.

Last but not least we paid tribute to each pupil. We expanded on their virtues and talents by using their Hebrew names and equating their qualities with biblical characters with the same names.

Here are some of the special prizes awarded:

The KNZC award was presented to Oren Cohen

The DHSA award was presented to Doron Werner, who also is our new head of Judaica.

The Union of Jewish Women award was presented to Joshua Aronoff.

 A delicious breakfast catered by Mrs. Sharon Levitan ended off the celebrations.

The success of this function would not have been achieved without the assistance and help of Mrs. Sue Jacobson and Mrs. Jodi Aronoff.
