Nature and biodiversity - Dinosaur presentation

Today the pre-primary, Grade R's and Grade ones watched a very informative dinosaur presentation. They learn interesting facts like each of T-Rex's teeth were the size of a banana.  All meat eating meat eating dinosaurs walked on two legs and all plant eating dinosaurs walked on 4 legs.

Resources - recylcing

Our faithful teachers and monitors were in action again this morning collecting items for recycling. Mrs MacToal keeps accurate records of who brings what. At the end of the week the class who brings the most is rewarded.
The monitors help the children to place their recycling into the correct bins.

Wildlands Conservation Trust

Last Wednesday Bronwyn from the Wildlands  conservation trust visited us at out assembly. The aim of the trust is to uplift people in need. She showed us a video of a granny(gogo) who her organisation had helped. No money changes hands - it is run on bater system. Gogo grew trees and did some market gardening. She also collects bottles for recycling.  Bronwyn and her helpers organise for the granny to trade her plants, for things that her family need.

Bronwyn challenged us to help others like the granny. She has asked us to collect clothing of all sizes. To start the bater system she gave us a Bush Willow tree from gogo. She will be returning on 16 November to collect, whichever class collects the most will be rewarded with a prize.

We encourage all to participate in this very worthy cause.

Community and heritage - Biblical times banquet

The Grade Six Bible Education children invited the whole grade to a special banquet such as that celebrated in Biblical times. They catered according to food that would possibly have been served back in the day. All were amazed at how tasty Mediterranean food can be. Invitations were made using toilet rolls as the cover for the ‘papyrus’ –type invitations, which were highly decorated using scraps of paper, ribbon and fabric.

Community and Heritage - Green Valentines day.

Instead of the regular red for Valentines day this year, Eden children dressed in green to show how much we love the Earth. We even featured in our local newspaper.

Community and Heritage - Beach clean up

Eden Prep was involved in a National Beach Clean up this year, pictured here at Ushaka Beach. This is the second clean-up, as the Eco Club also visited Addington Beach and environs to clean up the litter that was there.

Nature and Biodiversity - Our worm farm

Our Eden children are hard at work at our Worm Farm, now in its Fourth year, and doing well. We have successfully grown our vegetables in our Permaculture Centre without having to add chemicals, as we’ve used worm wee, mulched and watered regularly.

Community and Heritage/Resouces - Jewish children visit the bakery.

Our Jewish children had fun at the bakery at Pick n Pay baking their own bread in the kitchen. Celebrations are always fun when you can get your hands dirty!!!

Community and Heritage -Grade 4 Grandparents Day

Our Grade Fours used recycled material to make rockets with their grandparents at our annual Grandparents Morning. The designs were creative and colourful and a fun time was had by all. They used their knowledge of materials and visual appeal to design their models.

Nature and Biodiversity - Grade 4 outing to the Bird of prey Sanctuary

The Grade Fours visited the South African Bird of Prey Sanctuary, where they enjoyed comparing the various features of raptors found in South Africa. The children walked around the cages, looking at the different species and then were enthralled by the raptor display as the birds showed their ability to catch their prey with their feet.

It was an informative and exciting trip for all, and most of all, children learnt about the importance of bio-diversity, as well as maintaining a healthy eco system in which all can flourish harmoniously.

Nature and Biodiversity - Grade one outing to Flag farm

The Grade 1s had a fantastic outing to Flag Animal
Farm in Ballito. They had the opportunity to feed and interact with animals and even got to milk a cow. Some of the children were quite wary initially as they had never encountered these animals in close proximity before, but with a little encourage they soon relaxed and were able to take full advantage of the day. Each child had a horse ride and learned so much about taking care of animals and the importance of conservation

Nature and Biodiversity - Grade 1 indoor gardens

Grade 1D planted an indoor garden in recycled

containers that they had decorated.

Resources - art

Mrs Maree our amazing art teacher has done fantastic work across the grades this year. The culmination of her work will be the art exhibition on Thursday. She always endeavours to link her art topics with issues relevant to the world around us. Here are some examples of her work.
