Healthy Eating : Grade 2 'Ons maak toebroodtjies'

A few weeks ago, inspired by some of our pupils who planted some beans outside our classroom just for fun, Mel and I planted a whole lot of Lettuce. The children have just loved watching them grow and we have been so impressed by how they have looked after them.

As a result, we decided to use them in an Afrikaans lesson. We taught them the vocab and then set out to make sandwiches in which they could use the lettuce. Some of the children tasted lettuce for the first time!!!

Mel starting off the sandwich making by explaining what they had to do

Each pair had to share a lettuce.

We explained how to pinch a leaf off the plant without ruining the plant.

No wastage was allowed!

Ons smeer botter op ons brood !

Ons sny die brood

Ek hou van tamaties, kaas en slaai op my brood.

Ons botter wit brood!

Ons hou baie van toebroodtjies.

Dit is lekker

We ended off our lesson by making up a song using the vocabulary that they had learnt. All the children brainstormed and this was what we came up with ....
(to the tune of Fere Jaques)

Ons maak toebroodtjies x2
Kom ons smeer x2
